Is there a way to keep a person in the tree, but unlink them from the parents to whom they are attached? I accidentally merged a person into the wrong generation. I would like to move them without having to retype everything.
Yes you can. Navigate to that person’s page, then click on the “Edit” link next to their “Parents & Siblings” family. You should now see broken link icons to the right of everyone in the family. Click the broken link icon for your person to unlink him/her from the family. You can now add them to the correct family.

I found out if you unlink someone & don’t relink them to someone else, the become “floaters” in your tree.
